Speaker 1:                           00:07                     Did you know that Jesus gave us a warning that applies directly to pornography. Check out what he says. I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. One of the realities we see from this verse is that sin isn’t just the act of adultery, but it’s the lust in our hearts. Jesus says, the sin of murder also includes the anger or hatred inside of us. Sin isn’t just the act, but it’s what goes on in our minds and our hearts as well. When we have Jesus’ standard for sin, we realize that we all sin a lot. One of the consequences of our sin is an addicted brain, as we saw earlier, but there is an even more significant consequence. The greatest consequence of our sin is separation from God. The Bible tells us, but your sin has separated you from your God.

Speaker 1:                           01:03                     God is absolutely righteous and requires a perfect righteousness to know him. God loves us and wants us to experience his purpose and plan for our lives, but sin keeps us from all that God has for us. This separation because of our sin must be overcome in order to experience God’s love and plan for our lives. In your opinion, what do you think it takes for someone to get to heaven? The majority of people would say that good works will gain them eternal life. Things like helping others, being a good person or practicing religious activities like prayer or going to church. These are all good things that the Bible encourages us to do, but God says in his word that these can’t save us from our separation from him. For by grace, you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not as a result of works so that no one may boast.

Speaker 1:                           02:02                     You see, the Bible teaches that no amount of good works can get us to God because God’s standard is perfection and he requires a perfect righteousness for people to get into heaven. God loves us so much that he sent his son, Jesus Christ who lived a perfect righteous life and then died on the cross to pay for our sin because the wages of sin is death. God did this so that he could make the most amazing offer ever made the great exchange God offers for Jesus to take our sin and exchange. God will credit us with the perfect righteousness of Christ. The Bible says, God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Did you hear that God wants to take our sin and exchange, give us the of Christ. When a person puts their trust in Christ, Jesus takes their sin and credits them with the righteousness of God.

Speaker 1:                           03:08                     The apostle Paul was a very religious person, much of his life, but after he put his faith in Christ, he said this of his salvation. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law, rather I become righteous through faith in Christ. Paul says of Abraham salvation, his faith is credited as righteousness. The Bible uses the accounting term credit to describe what is taking place. When the parents of a college student pay their student’s tuition, they credit their student’s account with that money. When the college looks into the student’s account, they don’t care where the credit came from as long as it meets the standard. The parents meet the financial standard of the school on behalf of the child by crediting their account. In a similar way, God credits us with the righteousness of Christ. When we trust him as savior and ruler of our lives, God is just, and sin must be punished.

Speaker 1:                           04:11                     So he sent Jesus to pay the penalty for our sin. Jesus Rose from the dead and conquered death and now he offers the great exchange. If you will put your faith and trust in Christ, he will take your sin, your shame, and you will receive forgiveness and be credited with his righteousness. When God looks at a person who receives his offer, he sees us as his child cupboard in the perfect righteousness of Christ. God went through amazing lengths to make the way to heaven possible. It comes down to, well, I put my faith and trust in my own righteousness or in Christ righteousness that he offers through faith. Christ is the only person who met God’s perfect standard and God credits his righteousness to all who trust in him. Christ lived the life that we couldn’t live and then he paid the debt that we couldn’t pay.

Speaker 1:                           05:06                     The Bible tells us that it’s not enough to know or even believe these truths intellectually, but each person must make the decision to turn from their sin, turn from trusting in their own works and put their trust in Christ. Surrendering your life to Christ means allowing Christ to take control. When a person receives Christ, he begins to live his life through them by the power of his Holy spirit. Following God is impossible in her own strength, which is why Christ has to live his life through us. Paul captures this idea when he says, I have been crucified with Christ and it’s no longer I who live but Christ lives in me. Once Christ is in our lives, he gives us the desire and power to follow God and do good works. You see, the Bible says that good are a byproduct of knowing Christ, not how we come to know him.

Speaker 1:                           06:02                     Good works are a byproduct of having salvation, not how we obtain salvation. If you want to receive Christ and make the great exchange, you can express your faith through prayer and make the decision to trust him. There is a prayer in the response section that would be good for you to read through and decide if it expresses the desire of your heart. If it does, you should consider praying something like it to God yourself, making the decision to turn from your sin and trust. Christ is the biggest decision of a person’s life. When you go all in and trust Christ, you enter into a relationship with God and you have the opportunity to experience God’s purpose and plan for your life. When Christ is in your life, you have the power to face life and your addiction with God’s strength. Consider taking God up on his amazing offer and the resource section. There are other verses and articles that can help you process through this all important decision.
