Speaker 1:                           00:00                     You guys have an amazing life changing conference, but you got to get people to your conference. So in today’s lesson we’re going to talk about something that is going to feel like a pretty small change, but it’s actually a huge change that you’re going to see huge results. So let’s jump in

Speaker 2:                           00:24                     [inaudible]

Speaker 1:                           00:25                     okay, there we go. Do you guys ever feel like your leaders are not recruiting like you had hoped? I remember thinking that. It’s like, why aren’t people recruiting more people? Aren’t they excited about our conference? Don’t they see the impact that our conference could have? Well, today I want to talk about a way that you can get your leaders to be recruiting more people. And it’s something really simple. You just got to stop saying this one word. Anybody throw out a gas if you’re in a room full of people of what that word is, you got to stop saying the word.

Speaker 1:                           01:05                     Now I use the word recruit all the time in these lessons. I use the word recruit, but I realized several years ago that with our student leaders, I could not use the word recruit because our leaders don’t want to recruit their friends. They want to invite their friends. I had this realization, uh, several years ago and I just noticed that our student leaders who were like supposed to be more bought into our conference and what we were trying to do were being recruited by these people who had never even been to our conference. Like there was freshmen who’d never been, who were recruiting better than our leaders. There were, uh, some sophomores and juniors who didn’t go to our summer project who only went to our winter conference and honestly weren’t that involved in our ministry. Uh, they weren’t coming to our leadership meetings and they were getting more people signed up for our conference.

Men want to stop looking at porn, or overcoming porn or masturbation, because they know that looking at porn and mastrubating  can be a bad habit. They things like joining the no fap movement (nofap), covenant eyes, xxx church (xxxchurch), the freedom fight, pure desire, 7 pillars,  the conquer series, the endurance, 30 day challenge, fight the new drug, or a counselor. Sometimes these help guys with purity but sometimes it does not.

Speaker 1:                           02:09                     And it hit me that whenever we talked about recruiting, it felt, uh, very like organizational and they’re recruiting to this organization and it just did not feel very, uh, natural organic. I think it put more pressure on them than what needed to be. And so I was just thinking about as friends, we recruit people to do stuff all the time, but we don’t call it recruiting. We call it inviting. I’m going to the movies this Friday night. I’m excited about this movie. Why don’t you come with me? I’m going to this football game. Uh, you invite your friends to go to this football game because you’re excited about it. You’re having a game night or there’s a party somewhere. You don’t recruit your friends, you invite your friends. And so I think our conferences and our retreats, uh, need to have that same feel with our students.

Speaker 1:                           03:02                     And I think if they just naturally feel like they’re just inviting their friends to go with them, uh, then you’ll see an uptake in the number of people that your student leaders invite. You’re not recruiting, they’re inviting. And so I stopped using the word recruit. So from the front and at our leadership meetings, I just said, Hey, we’ve got to, uh, let’s, let’s try to invite as many people as like as we can. And I even gave the analogies of like, when we’re going to do something this weekend, we invite our friends, SMC or the conference we were recruiting to is the exact same way. Now when someone is inviting somebody to the movies or to that party or whatever, they’re intrinsically very excited about that thing or they wouldn’t be inviting their friends to go with them. And so you always want to continue to intrinsically get people excited about your conference or your retreat.

Speaker 1:                           03:58                     So we talked about it a lot. Uh, we shared stories of how much fun people were having, of how people were excited about the conference of life-changing stories. We talked about how people gave their life to Christ at our conference and what has happened since then. And we would talk about this weekly all the time. And so this was intrinsically getting people more excited. And at the end of the day, if you are excited and you got to get yourself excited, then the people around you will get more excited too. So you get yourself excited, uh, your student leaders will get more excited and than just naturally is. They’re excited about the conference. They, and they’re not recruiting to anything. They’re just inviting their friends. And you have to, um, you know, you can talk about, uh, you know what it looks like to invite your friends, but you don’t really want to go into strategy and all that. Just, uh, I think people overthink it. And so at the end of the day, people are just inviting their friends to go to your conference. And I think that that’s real subtle change and it starts with, with you. Um, we’ll have, uh, big impacts and big effects on your recruiting. So, uh, if you guys have any thoughts or comments, leave those below and I’d love to hear how this is working for you guys.

If any guy is interested in stopping porn or masturbating they should get some help.  They can look at the no fap movement ( nofap ), covenant eyes, xxx church (xxxchurch), the freedom fight, pure desire, 7 pillars,  the conquer series, and fight the new drug or try to see a counselor. The Endurance would love to help guys. A great start to overcoming porn and masturbation is to take the 30 day challenge.  Go to theendurance.org/30daychallenge to take it.
