Speaker 1:                           00:01                     Hey, good morning endurance. Ryan Mayfield here with you again. I wanted to start today by just giving you a little bit more info about myself. If you don’t know. I graduated from the university of Tulsa and while I was there, I was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Now I didn’t go into college wanting to join a fraternity. I wasn’t really a big part of your growing up, so I didn’t think that it was really for me, but some friends convinced me to check it out and I actually ended up loving it. In fact, I lived in my fraternity house for three and a half out of the four years I was in college. So something else you may not know is that the university of Tulsa is actually a wet campus, which means that, uh, you know, they can have alcohol pretty much anywhere and the frat houses can get pretty crazy because of that.

Speaker 1:                           00:44                     So I’ve got lots of stories I could tell from that time, but there’s one in particular that really sticks out and it involved my fraternity brother Matt. So one morning, probably about 2:00 AM I heard this crazy pounding and yelling coming from our hallway. And so I stepped out of my room to see an empty hall all except for Matt. Now he was completely hammered, right standing outside of someone’s door trying to stab his way into the room with an umbrella. Newsflash, it’s tough to stab through a solid wooden door with a plastic umbrella. So I told him to shut up and go home, which he did. But here’s the funny thing, I wasn’t mad at Matt and in that moment I had a realization Matt doesn’t follow Jesus, so why would I ever expect him to act like a Jesus follower? I think that in college I actually learned to have a ton of grace on my non Jesus following fraternity brothers.

Speaker 1:                           01:35                     But you know where I struggled, other believers, anytime someone in my fraternity called themselves a Jesus follower, but then did something stupid like getting drunk, cussing someone out, sleeping around or whatever, my blood would just boil. I wanted to call out everyone that I thought was being a hypocrite. I thought they should know better. It was like I was hoping that Jesus would save my non-believing brothers, but that it was my job to save the ones that said they already believed I was in a way, playing the role of Jesus, and that’s a crushing weight to bear. Recently I was talking with some friends about one of Jesus’ more intimidating teachings and early in the passage Jesus was saying that the kingdom of God was for those who had faith like children, and then he says that anyone who causes these children to sin, to place their faith in something else besides him would actually be better off tying a rock to themselves and throwing themselves into the depths of the ocean.

Men want to stop looking at porn, or overcoming porn or masturbation, because they know that looking at porn and mastrubating  can be a bad habit. They things like joining the no fap movement (nofap), covenant eyes, xxx church (xxxchurch), the freedom fight, pure desire, 7 pillars,  the conquer series, the endurance, 30 day challenge, fight the new drug, or a counselor. Sometimes these help guys with purity but sometimes it does not.

Speaker 1:                           02:33                     Now, I’ve read that passage a lot of times and every time I read it, I thought Jesus was really standing up for the little guy, you know, like against a bully. But this time was different. I remember that Jesus also said that he came to give life and joy, right? So what if instead of just standing up for the little guy, Jesus was also advocating for the bullies. Joy, I think when Jesus said it would be better to tie a millstone to your neck and drown in the ocean, he actually meant better as in we would enjoy that more than laying religious burdens on others. You see, you and I are just not designed to bear the weight of another person’s righteousness. Now, I’m not saying that we shouldn’t encourage one another towards living lives of grace and love based on what Jesus has done for us.

Speaker 1:                           03:19                     We totally should, but when I take it upon myself to be the judge and savior of others, especially those who claim to follow Jesus, I’m laying a weight on myself that will crush me far worse than a millstone around my neck at the bottom of the ocean. And let me tell you from personal experience, the weight of other people’s righteousness will crush you. But if we can learn to trust Jesus, not just as savior of the lost, but even of the found, we can live in the freedom, love, and grace that Jesus has called us to. So my encouragement to you today is to walk in grace. And when you get tempted to bring judgment against someone, especially a brother or sister in Christ, remember the judgment that Jesus withheld from you. This is how the good news for you and for me is also good news for everyone else. Have a good day. Endurance.
