Speaker 1:                           00:00                     You guys have an amazing life changing conference and I want to help you get your people there that you care about so much. So in this lesson we’re going to talk about how to utilize the promo night. Let me shrink myself there. So I love a great promo night where you have your weekly meeting, but you, uh, do a lot of hype, uh, trying to explain people about your conference or your retreat. You do a video, um, you know, you just, you really try to sell it. Uh, so it’s a lot of fun. You can really utilize this and get a lot of signups because of this night. But there are three things that I want to talk about. Uh, three tips that we learned over the years. Um, that will really maximize this night. And honestly, if you don’t do tip number three, having a promo night might hurt you and you should maybe not even do a promo night.

Speaker 1:                           00:56                     So here we go. Tip number one. Do not assume that people will come just because you are having a special meeting. So you have been planning this meeting for months. It’s been on your calendar and to you, you’re thinking and talking about it all the time, but that does not mean that the students are, and so you’ve, whatever the effort you might be doubling the effort for this night, uh, to put it on, I would say double the marketing effort, double the recruiting effort, double the invites, uh, do whatever it takes to get people to come to that night. Um, personally invite a lot of people we would think through groups of people. So if it was a team or fraternity, what’s gonna how are we going to get that fraternity there? I was not above giving money to their philanthropy. I was not a, um, if they had so many people come, I was not above giving money to the pledge educator one year.

Speaker 1:                           01:48                     Well, we didn’t get money, but we bought it. The guy like a $300 Yeti. If, if 100% of the Kappa SIG pledges showed up and this guy had purposely scheduled Kappa SIG meetings on every other Stumo not cause he did not want people to go to Stumo. And then when we gave him that deal, he became our best recruiter every, at 100% of the guys there at our, uh, promo night for our winter conference. So, uh, do stuff like that. One year we, uh, I could kind of feel the momentum was not good and I wanted people to be at our promo night. So we stole this idea from someone else. But we took a goat on campus the day before and we held up a sign where people could get their picture with the goat saying our winter conferences, the goat. And man, this thing went all over.

Men want to stop looking at porn, or overcoming porn or masturbation, because they know that looking at porn and mastrubating  can be a bad habit. They things like joining the no fap movement (nofap), covenant eyes, xxx church (xxxchurch), the freedom fight, pure desire, 7 pillars,  the conquer series, the endurance, 30 day challenge, fight the new drug, or a counselor. Sometimes these help guys with purity but sometimes it does not.

Speaker 1:                           02:34                     Social media was viral on our campus because everybody wanted to take a picture of the goat. And the next night we had our largest night ever. Uh, and it was not because of the goat, it was because I gave our leaders an opportunity to then invite people. So there was not just random people showing up for our meeting. It was the friends of our leaders came because now our leaders had a reason to why the goat was there and then they invited them to the meeting. So you got to do things like that. Number two, this is when you are promoting your conference and thinking through what you’re going to do. You’ve got to remember that your conference might be awesome, but it’s all about who’s going. So you can tell them about the great speaker lineup and all the workshops and the nightlife and make it sound so cool.

Speaker 1:                           03:23                     And I think you should do that. Do that as best as you can, but just know that it’s all about who’s going. So every year we would show a video of a bunch of students, like 30 or 40 students saying, I’m going, I’m going, I’m going. And I would almost say that that video is more valuable than the other video that explained our conference. Because people want to know who’s going to this thing. And when they see people that are like them, people that they would want to get to know going, they’re more likely to sign up. So you’ve got to somehow, uh, show that show who’s going, okay, number three, tip number three, you have to remember this, or your whole night might backfire. You have to use the promo night in addition to individually inviting people, never to replace individual invites. Uh, and I’ve, uh, I think what people tend to do is we’re putting so much effort into this night and you think, well, if I just get someone there, surely they’re going to sign up.

Speaker 1:                           04:27                     And, uh, I don’t, I don’t think this night is enough. Uh, maybe for some low hanging fruit. Um, but for the people that are maybe not a Christian yet, um, they’re, they’re just not, they’re going to be intrigued. They’re going to be excited, but it’s going to take the personal invite. So I love a personal invite before the promo night. You invite them to come to your conference and say, or to consider it and then say, but come come to our promo nine, check it out. They’ll give you a better feel of what’s going to happen. And then, or on the backend. So they go to promo night and then on the back end you say, Hey, I don’t know what you’re thinking, but I would love for you to come to this conference with us. You can kind of say, Hey, you know, how promo night, how, you know, all those people were there.

Speaker 1:                           05:12                     It was really fun. We’ll imagine that, uh, like times 10, uh, in an arena or in a big conference room with all these other people and, um, we’re all staying in a hotel rooms, whatever it is. Uh, you know, you kinda want to make your promo night like, cause people are wondering where your conference is going to be. Like just say, well it’s like that, but way bigger and way better. Uh, but at the end of the day it comes down to personally inviting people to go. That’s what you have to do. And so the, um, I would say if you don’t have enough time to personally invite people and you can only do the promo night, cut the promo night and spend a bunch of time personally inviting people. Um, we had some very successful years without doing a promo night by just personally inviting people now. But I would say the best thing is, is if you can personally invite people in combination with the promo night.

Speaker 1:                           06:02                     Uh, man, that’s a, that’s a win for sure. So, uh, you gotta get your staff gets your leaders on board for what’s going on, why you’re doing the promo night. Um, make sure that they know that we still have to personally invite people, uh, and people will get on board. Yeah. If you tell them the why and tell them behind the scenes what’s going on, people understand. So I hope that this in some way, uh, helps you get that guy or that girl that you’ve been praying for to sign up for your conference. And I’m excited to hear about your promo nights. Feel free to email me or comment below. All right. Love you guys.
